Category: Ithakas in My Mind

Ithakas in My Mind is a quiet place where I return to the cities I’ve called home — not just on a map, but in memory, meaning, and growth. Inspired by Cavafy’s Ithaka, this blog is a reflection on the homes I’ve known and the inner landscapes they’ve helped shape.

I’ve lived in Islamabad the Green, where the Margalla Hills cradle a city of still mornings and soft call to prayer. In Tartu, the “City of Good Thoughts,” I learned how silence can be intellectual, and how snow makes philosophers of us all. Tallinn brought the hum of ancient walls and digital futures coexisting side by side. Glasgow gave me poetry in the rain, and a grit softened by humor. And now, I live in British Columbia, where the trees and sea echo something I’d been seeking all along. This land — layered in beauty, memory, and the stories of many peoples — is now and forever home.

This blog traces the emotional cartography of those places: the languages I learned to speak and forget, the friendships that rooted or scattered, and the quiet realizations that only come when you’re far from where you began.

Wherever you are on your own journey, I hope these reflections offer companionship, curiosity, and maybe even a reminder that every stop along the way has its own Ithaka.
